Q1. What is your club
about?
A1. Slope Surfers Ski Club promotes skiing, snowboarding and fun times. We run
weekend bus trips to Mammoth Mountain in the Sierras from January through April.
Q2. Tell me about these weekend trips.
A2. Our 2-day weekend trips leave on Fridays at 5:30 pm from Redondo Beach. We
meet the bus at the Northrop Grumman (formerly TRW)
parking lot on the
southeast corner of the intersection of Marine and Aviation in the spaces of the
first 3 rows on the west side of the lot. The bus leaves at 5:30 p.m. SHARP!!
Please be considerate and be there on time!
On the way to Mammoth, we stop in Lancaster where everyone can purchase fast food dinners. After this dinner stop, we show a couple of movies. These movies can be R rated for sexual content or violence. We arrive at the condos in Mammoth between midnight and 1 a.m.
We provide meals for
Saturday and Sunday breakfast and Saturday dinner, and a boxed meal for the
Sunday evening ride home. The bus will leave from the condos at 8:00 a.m. in the
morning for the slopes. If you want to sleep in, you can take the free town
shuttle. The bus remains in the main parking lot all day, and leaves for the
condos at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, the bus leaves Mammoth Mountain at
4:30 p.m. SHARP. We provide an individual boxed meal on the bus for Sunday
dinner. We arrive back in Redondo Beach between 10:00 p.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday
evening, depending on traffic.
Our 3-day trips are structured the same way except they run Friday through
Monday. Our 3-day trips let you fend for yourself for the dinner on one of the
nights at Mammoth. The Club provides all breakfasts and one dinner while in
Mammoth.
Q3. What is the cost of your trips?
A3. Our trips are one of the best deals in the South Bay. See the trip sign-up
form for current 2 and 3-day trip prices. The cost includes deluxe bus
transportation, 2 (or 3) night’s condo accommodations, and breakfast and dinner
while in the condos at Mammoth. Not included are lift tickets, ski rentals, the
fast food stop for dinner on the drive up to Mammoth and any personal expenses.
Members of our sister clubs go on our trips for member prices, as well. Sister
clubs include: Beach Cities Ski Club and the Hughes/Northrop Grumman Ski Club.
Q4. What are the condos like?
A4. We stay at Chateau de Montagne in 3 or 4 bedroom condominiums which sleep
10-11 people. There is a Jacuzzi on site. The condos have full kitchens, three
baths, and usually have 2 bedrooms with king/queen beds, and two with twins or
bunks. We try to put couples in the big beds, and singles in the twins or bunks.
If you want to share a bed with someone, mark the "share bed" box on the trip
form.
If you are willing to
share a king or queen bed with someone of the same sex, please indicate this on
the trip form. This will assist us in the bedding assignments.
Q5. What if I want to have all my buddies in the same condo with me?
A5. Put down the names of your condo mate preferences on your trip reservation
form. We will make every effort to place people together, but keep in mind that
we cannot always satisfy every request.
Q6. What kind of food do you have on the trip? I'm a
vegetarian/carnivore/omnivore/junk food-eater and can only eat
vegetables/meat/everything/sugar.
A6. We usually have cereal, oatmeal, fruit, milk, coffee and orange juice for
breakfast. You can either bring your own fixings for lunch or purchase lunch on
the mountain. For dinner we usually have lasagna, salad, bread. One of the
lasagnas is vegetarian. The menu is chosen to try to please a wide variety of
tastes and provide the best value. While it's difficult to please everyone all
the time, we have found that most people are happy with our food selections.
Many of our regular skiers
supplement the food provided by the club. Suggestions are: wine of your
choosing, appetizers for dinner, additions to the salad and dessert. You are
always welcome to bring any food or drink of your choice for consumption in the
condo as well as on the bus. The club provides a large cooler with ice for
drinks on the bus. If you are bringing food for the condo, please try to bring
enough for the whole condo (10 people).
If you have special dietary needs, please do not hesitate to supplement the food
Slope Surfers brings with the item you prefer to eat.
Q7. How can I become a member?
A7. Membership in our club or one of our sister clubs is mandatory for
participation on a trip. You can sign up for membership at any time with a
Membership Form. Please know that the membership fee is non-refundable, and
is not dependent upon going on a Slope Surfer ski trip.
Q8. How much does membership cost?
A8. Membership is $35 per individual.
Q9. Do you allow minors on the trips?
A9. Slope Surfers does not allow participation in the trips by anyone under 21 years of age.
Q10.
Do you have club meetings?
A10. Technically speaking, no, we don't. The club officers meet once a month to
discuss club business. Members may call or email club officers with questions or
comments.
Q11. What if I'm waitlisted for a trip?
A11. Don't be discouraged! Keep checking the web site. About 44 people are
confirmed on the website prior to the trip leader doing bedding assignments. It
is often possible to add more people depending on the condo bedding arrangement
and bus size.
People do cancel out of trips, usually 47 days prior to the trip we will get about 5-7 cancellations, and then people cancel randomly after that. Often the week of the trip we will get a number of cancellations and sometimes at the last minute, allowing others on the waitlist to go. Please remember that once your name is on the CONFIRMED LIST, you are on the trip. It is up to you to notify the trip leader if you cannot make the trip.
Q12. What if I'm waitlisted and don't make it on the
trip?
A12. The trip leader will notify you, and your trip check will be shredded.
Q13. What is your cancellation policy?
A13. If you are on the 2008-2009 season trips and you cancel 47 days or more
before your trip, your trip check will be shredded with no penalty imposed.
Cancellations should be emailed to both the trip leader and the trip
chairperson.
If Slope Surfers has a Wait List, we may be able to replace you. If there is no Wait List, you will not be eligible for a refund unless you find your own replacement. Please remember, if it is after the cancellation deadline, whether you find the replacement, or Slope Surfers finds one, you will be charged a $30 cancellation fee. By this time your check will have already been cashed and we will deduct the $30 from the refund check we send you. If no replacement is found, you will be held accountable for the full trip amount.
Q14. Who should I call or email if I have questions?
A14. If you have questions regarding a specific trip, you should contact the trip leader listed on the website. If you have general questions, you may contact any of the club officers listed on the website.
